As we begin 2019, we are determined to give God first things: the first of the day (Word & prayer), the first of the week (worship), the first of the  month (return), and the first of the year (fast).  In our desensitized culture, we believe that this 21 Jump Start journey will help us become more open, sensitive, and responsive to God’s presence and power. We will be establishing healthy habits that will make positive, practical, and permanent changes in our lifestyle.

Here are some ideas and suggestions to consider regarding fasting...

o  Fast one meal a day
o  Fast sweets & caffeine
o  Fast one day a week: sundown to sundown
o  Daniel Fast: add whole grains and fish as needed

o  Social Media
o  TV & movies
o  Phone surfing
o  Gaming

o  Criticizing self and others
o  Grumbling & complaining: like weather
o  Negative thinking, speaking, & hearing

Fasting is about inviting Almighty God into every circumstance of life. As we begin 2019, we all need our sensitivity to the things of God sharpened. Join us as we take our next step with Jesus.

1.  Preparing to serve   Matthew 4:1-17
Jesus spent forty days and nights in the wilderness fasting and praying before He began God’s work on this earth.

2.  Seeking God’s wisdom   Acts 14:23
Paul and Barnabas prayed and fasted for the elders of the churches before committing them to the Lord for His service.

3.  Showing grief   Nehemiah 1:1-4
Nehemiah mourned, fasted, and prayed when he learned that Jerusalem’s walls had been broken down, leaving the people vulnerable.

4.  Seeking deliverance or protection   Ezra 8:21-23
Ezra declared a corporate fast and prayed for a safe journey for the Israelites as they made the long trek from Babylon to Jerusalem.

5.  Repenting   Jonah 3:10
After Jonah pronounced judgment against the city of Nineveh, the king covered himself with sackcloth, sat in the dust, and ordered all the people to fast and pray and they were spared!

6.  Gaining victory   Judges 20:26
After losing thousands of men in two days of battle, the Israelites cried out to God for help, fasting that day until evening, and the Lord gave them a stunning victory the next day.

7.  Worshiping God   Luke 2:37
An eighty-four-year-old prophetess named Anna was devoted to God, and regular worship, prayer, and fasting were expressions of her love for Him.
